Goals and Objectives of the NCCE

The overall goal of The Gambia Civic Education Programme is to create, develop, nurture and sustain a democratic political, social and cultural environment in which the rights, freedom and responsibilities of all citizens are guaranteed by the Constitution and within the international Conventions and Instruments to which the Gambia is a signatory.

The five major goals pursued through the Civic Education Programme are:

  • The cultivation of an environment of democratic continuity in The Gambia that will enable all citizens to fully participate in the governance of the country;
  • The protection of the rights and freedoms of all citizens in accordance with the constitution of The Gambia and other regional and international human rights instruments;
  • The guarantee of the equality of all citizens under the law and defend the dignity of the human person;
  • The raising of the political and civic consciousness of all citizens to assume political and civic responsibilities and duties;
  • The guarantee of the rights of women, children, disabled persons, the aged and the disadvantaged groups as enshrined in the Constitution and other regional and international human rights instruments.
