Composition of the NCCE

The Council
The National Council for Civic Education (NCCE), as provided in the Constitution and established by the 1998 NCCE Act of National Assembly, is the governing body of the civic education programme. The Council which meets once every month has 5 members including the chairman who is the executive head and four members. The Council carries out its mandate through the following organs.

The Secretariat
The Secretariat is the administrative arm of the NCCE. It is headed by an administrative secretary, who is supported by technical and support staff. The secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day operation of NCCE activities and programmes. The current staff of the secretariat consists of the administrative secretary, one programme officer, 4 civic education officers, 4 supervisors, 3 secretaries, an Accountant and 4 ancillary staff. At grassroots level NCCE relies on the services of grassroots facilitators to deliver civic education programmes.

The Task Force
There is an 18 member technical taskforce that complements the activities of NCCE. The primary responsibility of the taskforce is to provide technical support to the NCCE especially in programme design and delivery.

Special Committees
Special committees are set up by the Council as and when necessary for specific civic education activities and projects. In some cases members of the Task Force are nominated to head some of the committees. The Special Committees report to the Council of the progress and outcomes of their assignments.
