Partners of NCCE

Some of the primary bases of national Civic Education strategy are participation, collaboration and partnership at the various levels, among the various groups and between all the arms of the programme delivery and implementation. Partnerships and participation are vital in terms of moral and material support, and may often involve:

  • Cost sharing collaboration with partners and funding agencies agreements that respect the national policy on Civic Education;
  • Interfacing activities, experiences and programmes in support for democracy, civic and human rights education within development programmes at the implementation level;
  • Networking of information to serve as leverage for additional support (material and human resources) based on goodwill.

The multi-sectoral nature of the Civic Education Strategic Programme demands that strong collaboration and partnerships links be forged. These links will be with national and international institutions and organisations, local interest groups, civil society organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations and political groups.

1. National Institutions
For the effective implementation of the strategic plan the NCCE will collaborate and develop partnerships with institutions such as Local Government institutions, the Department of State for Education, University of The Gambia, Gambia College, Media Houses, the National Assembly, Security Forces and the Independent Electoral Commission.

2. Civil Society and Local Interest Groups
The effectiveness of Civic Education will be judged by the impact it makes at local or grassroots level. Community-based organisations will be strengthened to enhance their participation in conducting civic education intervention at community level.

3. Political Groups
Political will is essential for sustaining civic education interventions. The NCCE will collaborate with political groups to create an enabling environment for civic education to be crucial in the Gambia’s constitutional democratic process. The strategy is also to strengthen the political neutrality of the NCCE and its programmes.

4. International Organisations
The NCCE will strengthen existing partnership with UNDP, UNICEF, EU and UNESCO. These partners will be needed for providing technical and financial support for civic education activities. New partnerships and collaboration links will also be sought.

5. Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
NGOs have proven to be significant partners in the Gambia’s development efforts. They have the necessary expertise and some financial resources. The NCCE will continue to collaborate with this sector for effective civic education programme development and implementation.
