Rights and Responsibilities
Objectives:
- To educate citizen about their rights and responsibilities under the constitution and other international human rights instruments
- To promote affirmative action in the protection of the rights of women, children and marginalized groups (e.g. the aged, the disabled, etc.)
- To develop an understanding of the process of seeking redress from violation of rights
Content:
- Fundamental rights and freedoms
- Other rights e.g. economic, political & cultural rights
- Responsibilities: personal & civic
Knowledge:
- Create awareness of fundamental and other rights
- Understanding of freedoms and their limitations
- Understanding the corresponding responsibilities of every right
Skills:
- Enable people to seek redress through relevant democratic institutions e.g. ombudsman, courts, civil society, etc.
- Capacity to assume responsibility
