The NCCE kicked off the second phase of our engagement with local authorities to bridge gender gaps and foster inclusive and participatory planning.

The Training of Women Councillors and Local Government Authorities on Gender Responsive Budgeting and Participatory Planning is funded by UNFPA The Gambia through the Human Security Project. It was implemented in the Lower River and North Bank Regions. The program seeks to equip local government officials with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate and foster a more inclusive and gender-responsive approach to local governance.

On Day Two of the second phase of our comprehensive training program in Kerewan and Soma, Mr. Lamin Dibba, from Gambia Participates, took the lead in facilitating an interactive and engaging session in Soma. Through a dynamic group presentation, he adeptly delved into the fundamental principles and practices of gender-responsive budgeting, providing valuable insights to the attentive participants. His expertise illuminated the pathways to creating budgets that truly address the diverse needs and priorities of all members within a community, regardless of gender. The session not only offered theoretical knowledge but also practical tools and approaches for effective implementation at the grassroots level. This empowering initiative continues to equip local government authorities with the essential skills and knowledge they need to advocate for a more inclusive and equitable society.

An interactive session between the participants and Mr.Lamin Dibba of Gambia Participates on the topic: Gender Responsive Budgeting with an emphasis on the importance of Equality and Equity on resources allocation and distribution for sustainable and just development.

Continuing our dedicated efforts to empower Women Councillors and Local Government Authorities in advocating for Gender Responsive Budgeting and Participatory Planning, we were in Farafenni, NBR, and Kwinella, LRR for the final leg of this transformative initiative.

The primary objective of this endeavor is to arm local government officials with the necessary skills and insights to champion inclusivity and equity within their communities. It serves as a beacon, illuminating the path toward seamlessly integrating gender considerations into the intricate landscape of budgeting. Furthermore, it strives to foster a culture of engagement and cooperative decision-making through participatory planning.

Over these transformative days in NBR and LRR, we witnessed a passionate commitment to fostering gender equality and inclusivity within local governance. From dynamic presentations to lively discussions, every moment was a step forward in creating positive change.

Let’s carry this momentum forward and continue to advocate for a world where every voice matters. Together, we can make a difference.
